Why wont the f4 key work inf FSX?

I hear everyone saying that in Flight Simulator X, that you use the f4 key to go up fast after you hit Y for slew mode, whenever I do it though, it closes out the game page, and asks me if I want to hook up a projector to my computer. How do I disable this so it will work for FSX?
