Can I record a PC GAME (FSX) Using a DVD RECORDER?

I would like to record Flight Simulator X, but not using a screen recorder, e.g. FRAPS, CamStudi, Hyper cam etc etc. A few people have told me that you can use a DVD Recorder to record the game play onto a DVD. - Will this work and if so, what do I need etc.
